Welcome to Tucson Counseling!
We believe mental health services should not be a mystery. It is an investment of your time, finances, and energy that should be considered seriously and carefully. Tucson Counseling has 10 licensed therapists and a psychiatric nurse practitioner who are ready to assist you. We work with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples to restore balance and facilitating positive change. Our office staff works virtually to assist you throughout the day. We are open 7 days a week. Usually we get about 150 calls a day, if you get a recording, please leave a message, and we will call you back. If you sent us an email, we respond faster. We see patients in person on a limited basis, please do not come to one of our offices in person, they are closed. If you have not heard from us in 24 hours, please contact the office 520-873-8562- we might not have the correct information to be in touch with you. All contacts are returned within 24 hours.
Appointments are available every day 6am to 8pm, Sunday noon to 7pm. You can schedule yourself online without contacting the office. The first contact (i.e., free consultation over the phone) is not meant to be a long discussion. It helps to quickly clarify presenting issues, what insurance you have, and schedule the first appointment.
You can register and schedule yourself online, then complete forms and provide insurance info. If you need assistance, you can call 520-873-8562 press 1 at any time. You can text us at 520-873-8562 (not confidential). The first session, called an intake, lasts for less than an hour. An intake is not a free consultation. During that time we will decide if your therapist is the best professional to provide you with services you need, and if both parties feel comfortable working together. The subsequent sessions will address goals and help achieve your desired outcomes. Each session is from 45 to 53 minutes. We work hard to schedule you the same or next day (if possible) for an intake. After the first appointment you can schedule multiple appointments online. You can cancel your appointments up to 24 hours prior to your appointment time. Cash appointments are $175 for the first session and $125 for sessions 2 and on.

Insurance
We verify your insurance information before your first appointment and message you the details we find about your coverage. If you disagree with the details of co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles and coverage, you need to call your insurance company directly as we can only go by the information they give us. Call the customer service number on the back of your member ID card.
We submit claims to your insurance within 3 days of your appointment. When claims are paid by your insurance, we receive ERAs similar to the EOBs you receive directly from your company. The major companies usually process claims within 30 days and their decisions about payments are available to you and to Tucson Counseling at the same time.
Some of the smaller companies and third party administrators take longer to process and pay claims. If your claims are not processed and paid within 30 days, call your customer service number and ask about delays. Payments from insurance companies to us are automatically posted to your portal account as soon as they are received.
If you have a secondary insurance (this does not apply to Medicare supplements as Medicare supplements are billed by Medicare directly), please contact the office in terms of who will submit secondary insurance claims. We sometimes cannot do that but will provide you with the 1500 form you can send on your own.
Not all insurance plans cover couples' counseling. If you are seeking couples' counseling, please call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card and ask if couples' counseling is a covered service under your plan before registering with one of our providers (cpt code 90847 is what we will bill under).

Billing
You are able to access your billing information in your online portal 24/7 and you will want to check your billing account regularly.
- If you have a co-pay or co-insurance fee, the office will ask you to pay 24 hours before every appointment. You may make payments yourself via your portal or our office will charge your credit card.
- If your appointment is cancelled by Tucson Counseling, your appointment fee will be refunded or you may decide to keep it as a credit on your account.
- If you cancel your appointment with at least 24 hour notice, your fee will either be refunded or applied to the next visit.
- If you cancel your appointment with less than 24-hour notice, you will be charge either a No Show fee of $125.00 (if we haven’t heard from you at all) or a late cancellation fee of $50.00. These fees may be waived at the discretion of your provider for a legitimate emergency.
- Insurance claims not paid by your insurance within 30 days are automatically moved into the “patient responsibility” column in your billing account. If you see amounts in this column other than your co-pays and co-insurance, you need to call your insurance carrier and inquire about claims and payments.
- If you have an EAP and you are seeing amounts in the “patient responsibility” column of your account, please contact our office and your EAP to resolve any problems right away. EAPs have 60 days from the date of service to bill for the appointments so EAP billing is very time sensitive.
- We send account statements to you monthly via your portal, and we mail statements every 90 days if there is a “patient responsibility” amount showing in your account. We ask for prompt payment of all “patient responsibility” amounts.
- If you have any insurance or billing questions, you are able to reach out to our billing team through your online portal- click the button on your bottom right inside your portal.
